Communities in Schools of Houston County

Welcome to Communities in Schools of Houston County (CISHC). Our mission is to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.

Our goal is to assist our community in implementing locally-defined, comprehensive stay-in-school programs which result in an increase in the number of children who continue their education at least through high school and are able to take their place in the workforce and in their communities. Through private sector leadership in cooperation with schools, CIS takes a community development approach to supporting education by unifying the full resources of the community around children, families, teachers, and schools as a support system. This is what is needed for schools to be more successful, but they cannot do it alone... indeed, no organization acting alone can succeed.

The Five CIS Basics are:
It is our conviction that every child needs and deserves:
  • A personal, one-on-one relationship with a caring adult;
  • A healthy start;
  • A safe place to learn and grow;
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation;
  • A chance to give back to peers and community.

Our vision at Communities in Schools of Houston County is for all children to succeed in school and in life.

Since becoming operational we have successfully served 2,054 youth, 2,500 parents, 5 of the 19 elementary schools, all 7 middle schools, all 4 high schools, Crossroads Alternative Schools and the Career and Technology Center.

If you would like to learn more about the activities and programs of CISHC and how you can become involved in the success of our community's students, please feel free to call me. I look forward to hearing from you.

  Sincerely,
Joanne Alford-Robinette
CISHC Program Director
