Volunteer Houston County

Urgent Needs

High School Students for tutoring and mentoring elementary age students in Perry and Warner Robins after school and on Saturdays. contact Volunteer Houston County.

Long-Term Care - As Georgia's elderly population is rapidly increasing, the number of long-term care facilities is also growing. Residents of these facilities sometimes have little or no contact with the outside world. Many feel they lack control over their own lives. contact Volunteer Houston County.

Volunteers are needed to visit and build relationships with residents living in our community's assisted living centers. Volunteers will assist the Community Long-term Care Ombudsman Program in the following ways:

  • provide information and assistance to residents, family members and others regarding long-term care issues;
  • make unexpected visits to facilities and residents;
  • participate in issue advocacy activities;
  • attend resident and family council activities; and
  • participate in advisory council activities.

Rebuilding Together with Christmas In April- Our community's annual outpouring of help by tackling sagging roofs, leaky pipes, peeling paint, and rotting steps that are health and safety hazards for people who cannot help themselves. Sponsors know that "Christmas Miracles" require contributions of money, time, talent, and many in-kind services. Numerous volunteers and donors, working all year-round, have seen these "Miracles" happen right before their eyes. You can, too! We need your help! If you would like to join us, please call Volunteer Houston County at (478) 929-5464. Breakfast, lunch, and T-shirts are provided for all volunteers. contact Volunteer Houston County.

Rockers And Readers - The Success by Six program is looking for mentors for pre-school age children. We are looking for teams of three or four volunteers or individuals who would like to rock a baby and read a book during their lunch hour or share lunch, reading, and learning activities with toddlers. If you have a team or want to become part of a team, join us. contact Volunteer Houston County.

Do you have talents you would like to share? - Volunteers are needed for various agencies and organizations to assist the elderly with daily life skills, arts and crafts projects, party events, etc. You can make their lives special by providing that little extra touch of tender loving care; opportunities are available for direct involvement with residents and your opportunities are endless. contact Volunteer Houston County.

Help us help others - If you can answer the telephone and relay calls or take messages, you can help!  If you have clerical skills, and can spare a few hours a week, you are a necessity!!  Several community-serving agencies need someone to help in the office performing tasks such as telephone, copying, filing, computer, etc.

Help Someone Learn to Live Independently - Disabled individuals need assistance in learning to cook, do laundry, prepare budgets, organize a home, schedule appointments, and other aspects of everyday living.  If you have a hobby such as sewing, crafts, yard work, or household repair you can offer instruction to someone.

Love Animals? - There's a need for people who can devote a few hours to visiting, caring for, and socializing animals that are waiting for adoption.

I'm interested--tell me more!
